Our prestige wine, in homage to Zaccharie Geoffray, comes from a selection of our best terroirs and is matured for 11 months in barrels.
Old white-juiced Gamay Noir vines, average age: 50 years
An area of the Côte de Brouilly appellation on the slopes of Colline de Brouilly, with a fine, well-drained soil, stones of igneous origin (Diorite Porphyry) mixed with clay, east- and south-facing
Vines planted at a high density of 9–10,000 vines/ha, pruned into low goblets, traditional in crus,
Ground grassed and partly flowered for Terra Vitis reasoned agriculture. A great many insects are currently repopulating our vineyards.
We use “green picking” in order to obtain a lower yield that is properly ripe and concentrated.
Hand-picking in small trays to preserve the grape, vinification 13–15 days, pneumatic pressing, 1/10 matured in new barrels, the rest in 1–5-year-old barrels. This wine has developed for 9 months in casks.
This wine comes from the blending of our oldest vines; plots at La Chapelle in the south and Godefroy in the east.
Very beautiful deep red colour, aroma of very ripe fruits, blackcurrant, blackberry, round and warm on the palate with a lot of spices. Although it’s already pleasant, this wine is presently still a little young, and offers keeping potential for 10 years.
This is an excellent wine to accompany a fine piece of beef, grilled or in sauce, and game. Marries very successfully with Comté and Beaufort, as well as goats’ cheeses.
